Championship clubs call for vote over RFU leaders
A group of Championship clubs have called for a vote of no confidence in the current leadership of the Rugby Football Union (RFU).
The clubs, including Yorkshire Carnegie and Cornish Pirates, believe that the RFU has not done enough to support clubs in the second tier of English rugby.
They are demanding a vote to be held at the next RFU Council meeting, with the hope of bringing about change at the top of the organization.
The Championship clubs argue that they have been left to fend for themselves during the Covid-19 pandemic, with little financial support from the RFU.
They are also unhappy with the way in which the RFU has handled the recent restructuring of the English domestic league system.
If the vote goes ahead and the RFU leadership is ousted, it could have far-reaching implications for the future of English rugby.
It remains to be seen whether the RFU will respond to the demands of the Championship clubs and agree to hold a vote on the issue.
But one thing is clear – tensions between the RFU and the clubs in the Championship are running high, and something needs to change.
